Magic Millions was once again a happy hunting ground for Suman Hedge Bloodstock with the company an active buyer securing 11 yearlings in partnership for a total spend of $5,737,500.
The team of Rosemont Stud/SHB/David Redvers Bloodstock had a strong sale securing 4 highly prized yearlings for the second edition of the Victorian Alliance.
The Alliance which last year purchased Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Brereton from the same sale were highly competitive again with two colts by Zoustar purchased for $1,300,000 (x Piripala) and $1,250,000 (x Summer Sham) as well as a colt by reigning Champion Sire of Australia Written Tycoon (x Apologynotaccepted).
SHB continued its association with Ciaron Maher Racing securing Lot 676 a beautiful daughter of leading stallion I am Invincible (x Walk with Attitude) from Milburn Creek for 800K.
This filly who was right at the pointy end of the best fillies in the sale was from a family familiar with SHB as they had purchased the ½ brother last year at the Magic Millions National Sale for 500K. This horse by Snitzel named Zoukerino has trialled twice this year in good fashion for leading trainer John O’Shea.
The company also continued its connection with John O’Shea purchasing two yearlings, a colt and filly by promising Newgate stallion Deep Field.
The first of these LOT 521 was a sharp-looking colt bred by Gilgai Farm and offered by Widden Stud. This racy type was blessed with a big walk and was also popular as a weanling. He is from a ½ sister to stakes winners Jameka and Grandslam and looks well bought at 300K.
The 2nd purchase with the O’Shea stable was a precocious-looking filly LOT 913 who is a daughter of Group 3 winner Diddums. This filly who looks very early was offered by proven vendor Torryburn and is the first ladies syndicate offering from SHB.
It was a case of “If you can’t beat them, join them,” with SHB’s Merchant Navy purchase with Peter Moody.
After an intense battle to land the strong filly from Rosari for 240K a chance meeting with Moody revealed he was the underbidder buying for a common client. After some brief negotiations, a partnership was formed with the filly heading to Moody at Pakenham.
The Gold Coast sale proved a first for SHB with the company buying in partnership with leading WA trainers Grant and Alana Williams. The pairing secured their first yearling together with LOT 348 a classic style of a filly by champion racehorse and proven stallion So You Think also from Rosari Farm for 140K.
SHB and Team Williams agreed to partner up at the yearling sales in 2022 with the Magic Millions Sale the first opportunity for the duo to purchase together. SHB proprietor Suman Hedge is very excited by the arrangement.
“Grant and Alana are a formidable team, they are young, ambitious, and dynamic, having the opportunity to work with them is a great coup and something I’m really looking forward to, said Hedge.
Suman Hedge Bloodstock’s other purchase was LOT 716 a stunning filly offered by Segenhoe Stud by leading stallion Zoustar from the Street Cry mare Abbey Road.
“This filly was a queen that we have purchased for one of our main clients whom we are building a portfolio for. We had some fun playing on a couple of other fillies (that we were never seriously contemplating) but she was the one we really wanted. This filly was purchased at a much more sensible price-point and I think was very well bought.”
After successful main book participation, SHB paired off with Jason and Lucy Attard’s AKA Racing to buy an athletic colt by 1st Season Sire Encryption from Oaklands Stud for 52.5K.
SHB now moves on to Sydney for the William Inglis Classic Sale and is hopeful to find some more nice prospects for its diverse partners.
