BREEDING

GROUP 1 SUCCESS

Suman has been an active participant as a breeder and achieved Group 1 success.

In 2002 Suman purchased his first broodmare Myrrh (NZ) for $19,000 at the William Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney.

Myrrh, a moderately performed daughter of Nassipour and the Group 2 winning Western Symphony mare San Pauli Girl was sold in foal to Group 1 winning sprinter Testa Rossa.

This mating produced a colt foal which Suman sold at the 2004 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale for $260,000.

However it was the next colt foal produced by Myrrh which would eventually prove the real “life changer”.

In 2003 Suman elected to send Myrrh to the Danehill stallion Honours List, a European performed 2yo that stood at Widden Stud NSW.

The resultant colt foal from this mating was sold at the 2006 William Inglis Classic Sale to a fledgling young NZ born trainer named Chris Waller who picked up the colt for $50,000.

The colt would be named Triple Honour and would go on to win the 2008 ATC Doncaster Handicap as a 3yo, winning the first Group 1 for his young trainer who has subsequently gone on to win countless Group 1’s highlighted by the astonishing deeds of the incomparable Winx.

Triple Honour proved a tough and resilient racehorse commencing as a 2yo and completing his career 53 starts later as a 7yo winning 3 Group races and over 2 million dollars in prize money.

THE RIGHT ADVICE

Being a willing trader Suman promptly entered Myrrh into the 2008 William Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale as a supplementary entry, selling the mare for $400,000 to Coolmore Stud Australia, a fair return on the $19,000 he spent to secure her.

Suman however has not only secured great results in breeding for himself.

In 2015 client Ralph Tierney asked Suman to find him a broodmare and at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale Suman went to $50,000 to secure the mare

On a Given Day (Fastnet Rock) in foal to former Golden Slipper winner Stratum.

The subsequent Stratum colt from this mare sold at the 2016 William Inglis Weanling Sale for $88,000. Suman then advised Ralph to send this mare to Zoustar which he did resulting in a filly which he sold as a yearling in the 2018 William Inglis Premier Sale for $150,000 to leading trainer Ciaron Maher.

In 2016 client David Dixon asked for mating advice for his mare Chimerique who had to that time been a moderate producer at stud. Advised by Suman to send the mare to Zoustar, Dixon sold the subsequent yearling filly at the 2018 William Inglis Classic Sale for $200,000 to successful trainer Paul Perry.

Suman has a sound commercial knowledge of the thoroughbred breeding sector, he understands trends and he understands value.

As a successful seller of yearlings and Group 1 winning breeder, Suman is exceptionally placed to offer prudent advice in this challenging field.
