Meteorite a promising winner at Moonee Valley

3yo colt Meteorite broke through for a very promising win on Friday night at Moonee Valley for Tony and Calvin McEvoy and Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

The attractive son of Deep Field was having just his 3rd start following a narrow defeat on debut followed by a close up 6th in good company at Caulfield.

Jumping fast from a wide gate, Meteorite cleared his rivals to lead comfortably before darting away in the straight to score convincingly by 2.5 lengths. Godolphin runner Nerone finished strongly to grab 2nd with the Michael Kent trained debutant Sea Dragon a head away in 3rd place.

Meteorite was a $190,000 purchase from the William Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale from the Sledmere Stud draft.
“Meteorite was such an eye-catching yearling with such a natural and rhythmic walk, he was definitely the dancer at the nightclub. We liked the line of yearlings left by his sire Deep Field and were really keen to grab him ”, said Suman Hedge.

“This horse is close to my heart being the first horse bought for the new company and being my only yearling purchase for the year I’m glad he is showing nice ability ”.

Hedge is hopeful this success will lead to more opportunities to purchase in 2020.

“I think we’ve built a really formidable record over the years buying some nice horses from very limited opportunities. We’re not aligned to anyone and happy to join forces on horses of mutual interest as it’s a lot easier to get horses done with a partner”, said Hedge.
