Adelaide goes from the outhouse to the penthouse for SHB

The Adelaide Magic Millions Sale was a rollercoaster ride for Suman Hedge Bloodstock but ultimately turned into another prolific sale for the company.

“In the lead up to the sale we were badly let down by a client and reached the sale with no orders, it looked like it could be a wipeout but fortunately Travis Doudle, Williams Racing and Onfire Racing came to the rescue with an existing client and turned it into a terrific sale,” said Suman Hedge.

Hedge and Doudle struck quite early in the sale securing LOT 72 a bay colt by proven stallion Smart Missile from the winning Street Sense mare Charlotte Square.

“This was a nice colt to kick off our new relationship with Travis Doudle. This strong colt has a real resemblance to his sire and comes off arguably the most prolific farm in the country in Mill Park. He will take some time and is more a 3yo but looks a good prospect.”

LOT 109 was the next purchase and again SHB teamed up with Travis Doudle on a strong colt by Rich Enuff from the stakes-placed Erin’s Element.

“This was a big strong colt who looks a lot like his sire Rich Enuff. One of my clients bred him and has kept a piece to race with Travis. There were few stronger horses physically then this bloke and we know his sire can get a good one,” said Hedge.

LOT 184 was the next purchase for SHB this time teaming up with Williams Racing on a neat Toronado colt from the Equiano mare Joyano.

“This colt is not big and has a fairly light page but he’s such an athlete and still a bit bum high so we feel he will grow and develop into a nice horse. His sire Toronado is flying and we felt he would be an ideal fit for Williams Racing as they are patient and will give him the time to develop into a nice horse.”

SHB had to push hard to secure its next purchase LOT 245 an athletic bay filly by young stallion Headwater from the winning Medaglia d’Oro mare Miss Cooper.

“As soon as I laid eyes on this filly I had to have her, she is such a precocious looking runner and walked professionally every time we pulled her out, she has been purchased by one of my biggest clients and will get every chance,” said Hedge

LOT 297 who ended up being the most expensive horse in the sale was secured by Suman Hedge Bloodstock for 375K. This bay filly by leading young stallion Dundeel is from the stakes-winning Magnus mare Prettyhappyaboutit who at stud as already left the stakes-placed galloper Yulong Command.

“This filly was the pick of the sale for mine, she has so much quality and presence and just exudes class. We have purchased her for a client looking to build a young broodmare band and will get every opportunity at stud at the conclusion of her racing career,” said Hedge

SHB completed their purchases teaming up with Travis Doudle and Onfire Racing to purchase LOT 305 a bay colt by So You Think from the Choisir mare Quizini.

“This colt we felt was a bit under the radar, his sire is taking all before him and may end up Champion Sire of the country he is going that well and this colt comes from the very strong Champagne family which is so prolific and always throwing up good horses, we were very happy to secure him for just 100K.”
