Suman Hedge Bloodstock was active again at the Adelaide Magic Millions sale securing the top priced lot at the sale a Dundeel filly from Swan River for $250,000 in a partnership with McEvoy Mitchell Racing.
The filly, who was a stand out at the sale was well inspected and was highly complemented by McEvoy Mitchell bloodstock agent Rick Connolly.
“As long as I’ve been working for Tony we haven’t bought a better filly than her. She’s a very nice filly, fluid in her action and has a lot of class,” said Connolly.
Vendor David Johnson of Rushton Park Thoroughbreds was also steep in his praise of the filly.
“She’s a star and hasn’t turned a hair all week. She just cops everything in her stride and was easy to deal with. She’s a real professional,” said Johnson.
For Hedge it was a case of not being able to leave without the “memorable” filly.
“I have a philosophy of not buying a yearling unless it`s really compelling and the horse is memorable. I see literally hundreds of horses but every now and then you see a gem and when you do you just go hard to get them, this filly was the memorable gem, just an absolute stand out,” said Hedge.
Trainer Tony McEvoy was familiar with the filly’s family having trained the talented half-sister Ghodeleine who won 2 out of 3 before sustaining an injury.
Dam Swan River is a full sister to Group 2 winner Lieutenant and half-sister to Group 2 winner Count Encosta.
Sire Dundeel has emerged as one of the most promising young stallions in Australia siring Group 1 winners Atyaab and Yourdeel, Group 2 winner Global Exchange and exciting 2yo Castelvecchio.
The filly was fully subscribed shortly after the sale and has moved to Kildalton Farm for breaking in with Warren Sutton.
